In 2022, we made oversized concrete planters and S-shaped benches for the EU head office courtyard. The planters sit apart on individual plinths, giving their rounded forms presence and leaving room for the courtyard to breathe.
Think beyond the object.
A planter is experienced in relation to the route around it, the planting above it and the places where people pause. Its position is part of the design. The generous spacing and individual bases in this installed view let the rounded forms read clearly.
Curves create another kind of edge.
The S-shaped seating carries the sculptural language around the courtyard tree. Its curves shape a place to sit and a route to move through. The installed views show the finished white curves with courtyard paving still in progress. The making photograph below shows how the formwork established that shape.
Start with the space between.
A custom piece earns its place by making the setting work. For a furniture commission, bring the available area, site access, planting or seating needs and the route people will take around it. We design the object and its relationship to the space together.
