OUR JOURNEY / 2 MIN READ

From Chalik Designs to ExotiCrete.

More than two decades at the surface. A purpose that reaches beyond it.

A Jamaican creative practice.

Chalík Campbell built Chalik Designs through more than twenty years of decorative finish work before joining forces with former schoolmate and entrepreneur Mark Dean. ExotiCrete Surfaces Limited was registered in March 2022. The practice grew through colour, texture, faux finishes and the discipline of making an idea work in a real room.

The first invitation.

In May 2024, our first journal entry invited readers to follow a journey through architectural concrete installations. The focus was learning: improving technical skill, developing the team and raising the standard of the work. That commitment still drives the work: learn the material, develop the people and raise the standard.

A broader direction.

Walls, interior floors, driveways, walkways, epoxy surfaces and sculptural concrete now express that craft at different scales. The constitution connects those projects to a larger purpose: turn practical experience into stronger skills, better material knowledge and responsible enterprise. The Institute is the next undertaking, with education and research at its core.

Craft becomes knowledge when we share it.

A finished photograph shows what we made. The story explains why it works: veining that travels around a room, light that draws out a sculptural edge, a curve that changes how people gather. Those decisions make the work understandable—and give you better questions to bring to your own project.

Bring that thinking to your space.

Start with what the space needs to do. Look at its light, movement and existing materials. Then explore the project stories and bring us the qualities that speak to you. The aim is a finish or form with a reason to belong in your space.

Continue with Chalík’s story and the convictions behind ExotiCrete. This note carries forward the learning-led invitation of our first journal entry, Cementing ExotiCrete’s Journey, published 10 May 2024.
